The Chemical Theatre

The Chemical Theatre is a collection of recipes for making chemicals. All the recipes are from alchemists in the 17th century, but there is plenty of practical application to be found here. You might find yourself wondering how these ingredients were obtained and where they were shipped from—and I recommend doing some research on that if you want to take the time.

The Chemical Theatre, a book of recipes for making chemicals, is not to be confused with the book The Chemical Theatre. All of the recipes in this book are from alchemists in the 17th century, but there is plenty of practical application to be found here.

Emerald Tablet

One of the most important and influential alchemical texts, the Emerald Tablet is a short text on the creation of the universe. It was written as an instruction for making the philosopher’s stone, an object that would supposedly turn base metals like lead into gold. The text is considered to be one of the earliest examples of writing in Greek Alchemy, which has been practiced since at least 600 BCE.

The Emerald Tablet is a very difficult text to understand: some scholars believe it’s not actually about alchemy at all, but rather contains information about Egyptian religious practices or even describes how to build a pyramid!

The Emerald Tablet has been a source of inspiration in many cultures. It’s considered by some to be the single most important and influential alchemical text ever written.

Rosarium Philosophorum

The Rosary is a collection of alchemical texts, the oldest and most important being the Emerald Tablet. It was written in 1477 by an unknown author who used the name “Ludwig Theophrastus Bombast von Hohenheim.” This last name means he was also known as Paracelsus, a Swiss-German physician, botanist and astrologer considered to be one of history’s most significant medical figures.

The book includes several recipes for making both the philosopher’s stone (a legendary substance that can turn base metals such as lead into gold) and elixir vitae (the “elixir of life” or an universal remedy).

Testimonium Baphometi

Testimonium Baphometi

Testimonium Baphometi is a book that was written by an unknown author and published in 1563. The author claims to have met with Lucifer, who gave him the secret teachings of alchemy and a copy of what would become Testimonium Baphometi as a gift. This makes it one of the few books on alchemy that predates Paracelsus, but it still contains several elements that were not common knowledge at the time. In fact, some historians believe that there was an earlier version of Testimonium Baphometi which was lost during the inquisition in 1499, but this cannot be proven for certain.

The book begins with an introduction about what alchemy is before going into instructions for making Philosopher’s Stone—or “white stone”—and other potions used by famous figures throughout history like Nostradamus and Dante Alighieri (who wrote The Divine Comedy). It goes on to explain how you can use these potions to create gold and other precious metals while also explaining how they can be used for healing purposes like curing diseases or even reviving dead people! Later chapters talk about Jesus Christ himself as well as his mother Mary Magdalene; both were said  to be accomplished alchemists themselves!

Alchymia Nova

Alchymia Nova, written by Michael Maier and published in 1617, is an allegorical journey through the alchemical process. It’s been called “the most important alchemical book of the 17th century” because it was seen as a commentary on the Emerald Tablet—the basic text of alchemy. The idea behind this concept is that your own soul is like an Emerald Tablet: if you can find out how to unlock its secrets, you can achieve immortality and spiritual transformation.

Alchymia Nova represents this idea with stories about a king who wants to attain immortality through alchemy; but instead of just giving him information about how to do it (like many other texts), Maier takes readers on a journey through his own life where he learns all about different aspects of himself through various encounters with people and objects around him. He then uses these lessons from his experiences to tell us how we can achieve our own spiritual transformation through applying them ourselves in our lives!

The New Pearl of Great Price

The New Pearl of Great Price is one of the most important books on alchemy, and the only known copy to survive. Written in 1521 by Peter Bonus, it was the first book to describe the process of making the philosopher’s stone. It is also known as “the second book of the art,” because some believe that there was an earlier manuscript called The Book of Secret Things or Tractatus Auctoris Secreti that was lost during World War II when it was shipped from London to Washington DC.

Twelve Keys of Basil Valentine

Basil Valentine is a German alchemist who lived in the 15th century. The book is a collection of 12 letters written to a student, thought to be a prince or nobleman. It’s unknown if this student ever existed or not, but the letters are written in such a way as to suggest that Basil Valentine was writing them for an audience. This can be seen in his use of humor and sarcasm at times, not unlike how you might talk to your friends or family members today when discussing something heavy and important (such as alchemy).

These letters were written to show off what Basil Valentine knows about alchemy, but they are also meant as a guide for how to do it yourself. The author wants his readers to get excited about exploring this subject with him and learning new things along the way.
